Kids Warming Up with Happy Star
Our 1st of 3 Summer Kids Action Events at Jesuit HS was nothing less than Fantastic!! We had a constant stream of families and kids coming out for a great time of action, movement and fun!
We had our normal challenges and games that kids loved…and our Jesuit High School Coaches innovated, and put some new, challenging twists into PLAY with some of our regular activities…and kids loved it!
More Fun…More Hearts Pumping! More Sweat…More Smiles! Everyone had a great time! Come on back out…Same Place…Same Time (Jesuit HS 10am-1pm) on Saturday July 13th!!
1 KID: I love to eat…A LOT! So I exercise so I don’t get fat.
1 DAD: after a few challenges…one dad said: “We have not had this much (Physical) fun…TOGETHER in a long time. We have 3 kids and run them in difference directions…plus we work…so it’s too easy to never interact. We’re coming back again…and we’re bringing friends!”
1 VOLUNTEER: I cant believe how much fun the kids had! Even when they were working hard…they wanted to do more and said they were having a great time. I have a little brother at home who needs to do this. I’m bringing him to the next one!
Now…this is an interesting read.
Part of the screen use…sitting still life…are so many other things. Lack of human on human interaction…lack of intimate interpersonal human experiences…communication misunderstandings…the ability to build a super cyber world and try to live up to it…
Also…missing what nature and our world give us! There is an interesting theme to this article…for example, an amazing sunset, and in one’s scramble to grab a phone, and take a picture, post to face book or instagram, etc…we miss important parts or all of the experience. We don’t take in all the amazing, and often relaxing details.
Anyway…I am not anti technology…or anti social media…anti texting or cell phones…but they are also a major, major part of our static, non moving lives that have us missing a lot of what our physical, real world has to offer. Colors, smells, texture, adjusting to change…you name it.
I guess…that is one reason we are doing what we are doing! The GET UP…GET OUT…GET MOVING theme is designed for physical movement and an exceptional positive experience, both at young ages and as a family…but it is also socially designed to be real world…3-D…human…interactive…they way we are meant to interact, live, etc…
With that…here is the read…let me know your thoughts!
This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "food poisoning." Original list found in Dr. Jayson Calton and certified nutritionist Mira Calton's new book, Rich Food, Poor Food.
Had a chance to read this article from Food & Nutrition Magazine about raising healthy kids. . Enjoy!
North Beaverton Families came out in great #’s Wednesday June 12th for a fantastic night of fun and action at Bethany Elementary School. This tight knit community showed what they are made of, with both kids AND parents moving, playing and having fun! From the Gauntlet Obstacle Course…to the Subway Challents…to the Les Schwab Tire Course and more…we sent a lot of Bethany Area kids home tired and feeling great! We’re pretty sure everyone slept well that night!
Play Fit Fun had a blast at Sexton Mountain Elementary School with students and families. The kids ran, jumped, sweat, lifted, threw, worked together and had an amazing time. The smiles were amazing…on both the kids faces…AND the parents faces.
Kids Are Meant To Play…And Move!
We learn many things through Play…and our bodies are built to move.
Play.Fit.Fun loves seeing kids and families experience the joy of working their bodies…how great they feel after…the excitement about overcoming challenges…and realizing they can do things they might not have thought possible!
Below is something I have written and want to share…
AND…I’d love to show this link to a great article…and a 2nd article…and a marvelous 8-Min You Tube Video!
I own one…I use it…quite a bit. But I find myself working harder than ever to moderate my usage of my smart phone than ever before.
Our children are using smart phones at younger ages…and relying on them heavier as they grow than any other generation. We are hooked!
We cant put them down. We are not looking at each other in the face…eye to eye…having interpersonal conversations as much as we used to.
We text rather than talk…we email rather than converse…we post rather than chat. It’s not personal.
Because of this, we continue to move less than any other time in history. We crave a cyber world because it is more perfect.
By no means am I suggesting to not use them. They are only getting more popular. But Moderate them…and make sure you and your family Keep Moving!
Put them down more…turn them off more…have rules about usage like not at the dinner table…and perhaps they are only used by children after a certain amount of physical movement or fitness is accomplished each day.
Check out these 2 interesting articles…and a great CBS News Segment!
Everywhere you look these days, everyone is looking down. None of us can seem to take our eyes off our phones, not even for an instant. When we're not talking, we're texting or surfing the web. CBS's Susan Spencer interviews Sherry Turkle, a psychologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who says a recent New Yorker magazine cover showing a family on vacation together at the beach - each busy with their respective phones - sums up the state of our society: We've lost the ability to have meaningful, face-to-face communications. We also hear from social scientists and medical doctors who have studied how all of this technology is changing our brains.
Residents of South Beaverton’s Hiteon Elementary School's Neighborhood must have that there were a lot of confused families still at school from 6-8pm for recess, or field day…but no, Play.Fit.Fun put on a special Kids Action Evening for these families…and we had a fantastic showing! A huge # of Hiteon Families attended and had a great time. From warm ups and stretching to team activities and individual play…we worked over 200 kids and some of their parents pretty hard. From the Gauntlet (its fun!!) to the tire course…the Baggo Games…Run Tip Run…and Garbage Can Races (AND MORE)…sweaty faces, flushed a bit, hearts beating, lungs screaming for more air…there was a smile on every face…with kids yelling, screaming and having a blast. We’re not over promoting here…it’s the truth! It’s what happens when you GET UP…GET OUT…GET MOVING (and work in some Fun and Play too)
Big Tony is a HUGE HIT! All kids want to do is flip him…jump on him…hop around him.
Without the paint…he’s just a tire. Give him a name…and kids are more engaged.
With the Garbage Can Races…kids have to push the can in a 30 yard course, open the lid, squat down, pick up a sports ball, stand up, drop it in and push on to the next ball and do it all over again. They repeat this 4-5x then run/pull the can back to the finish line. The multi-faceted functional body movement is fantastic…the kids LOVE IT…and it shows them you can do ANYTHING to be active and have fun.
In this case…this little girl had watched her Big Bro do it…then she wanted to…then she said she’d only do it if he pushed…and she picked up the balls…ALAS, a new game was created…and this is another example of what we push: Creativity…and Teamwork!
